We all know that oil is the vital element for the VW type 1 engines of our Beetles and derivatives.
Keeping the oil at the right temperature is essential. By simply replacing your original oil level gauge by this oil temperature sensor and by reconnecting it to the original oil pressure sensor with the kit provided with its instructions and its double plug,
you will now be able to monitor the oil temperature of your engine without the use of an additional dipstick on the dashboard with the hazards of connections that result (additional wires to pass, installation of dipstick etc. …)
Your oil light will now perform two functions: it will continue to function as an oil pressure warning light as before, but it will also become an oil temperature warning!
Under normal conditions, your light will remain off.
– If the light starts to flash, your engine temperature is getting too high (about 108°C) and it’s time to lift the throttle to lower the engine speed or take a break.
– If the light comes on continuously, the temperature of your engine is definitely too high (about 115°C) and you must stop the engine to cool it down.
No more worries in hot weather or in traffic jams!
6 or 12 volts operation
It is imperative to adjust the height of the sensor cap with the original dipstick to have the right oil level information.
Pass the wire behind the dynamo and igniter foot, disconnect the wire from the original oil pressure sensor, connect the new wire to the pressure sensor with the double lug and reconnect the original pressure wire.
That’s it! Your dashboard light now plays a dual role!
