Conversion to Straight Axle. Replace troublesome reduction boxes with this straight axle conversion for any ’56 to ’67 Bus and take advantage of a taller gearing. The CSP straight axle kit for Type-2 Bus (Split Screen) up to ’67 makes lowering the rear suspension easy – by at least 135 Millimetres (short-travel shocks required)!
When used with factory wheels, 25 mm spacers are necessary.
You have to remove the reduction boxes if you want to lower a pre-’67 Bus in the back. With this bundle, you will receive all the necessary parts for the conversion – besides some details the customer has to decide up front.
The existing gearbox can be used only if the sides of the ring gear are changed. But alternatively, you can get a swing axle transmission from a Beetle, Karmann Ghia (Type-14) or Type-3.
If you want to use drum brakes, you will need Beetle / KG 1965-67 wheel bearing covers (part number 311501311), which are not required if you go for a CSP disc brake kit.
Besides that, you need two post-’67 Beetle driveshafts. That’s it. You don’t need anything else to lower the rear of your Bus!
The CSP kit includes two pre-assembled axle tubes with high-quality, non-split axle boots.
It also comes with adjustable and CDC-coated CSP spring plates with integrated travel limiter.
Two spacers for the spring axle caps, two handbrake extension tubes, plus CSP gaskets with correct thickness and in the right amount are also included, in addition to the hardware with the correct strength.
